Continuing a great tradition requires commitment. There are many qualities of a United StatesMerchantMarineAcademy education that link us all. From the Academy’s emphasis on academics and personal excellence to regimental life and the memories of sea year, we all share a unique bond which spans all generations. For many, the elements of strong leadership, discipline and integrity are the cornerstones of a Kings Point education.

The Academy, through the Alumni Foundation, appeals to its community of graduates, parents, and friends for their support. The financial funding provided by the Federal Government is only enough to cover the basic operations of the Academy. Virtually all co-curricular activities exist through the generosity of our alumni, parents and friends.  Areas where the Academy depends on private support include; Classroom and Laboratory Modernization, Athletics, Regimental Band, Waterfront Facilities, Leadership Development through the Lanier Lecture Series, and creation of an Ethics Center, just to name a few. In 2004, the Foundation granted $1.77 million to the Academy to support vital programs.

The Office of Development's goal is to raise the necessary funds to provide the Midshipmen with the facilities and equipment they need to become outstanding leaders both inside and outside the classroom.  Besides supporting the co-curricular activities, there are many other reasons to give.
